New Lou Reed DVD - Live At Lollapalooza

On 9th August 2009 in Chicago, Lou Reed assembled a never-before-featured cast of musicians into a band which essentially tore the house down at Lollapalooza

The band included Lou stalwarts Rob Wasserman (bass), Tony ‘Thunder’ Smith (drums), Mike Rathke (guitar), plus the Lou’s recent sideman, Steve Hunter (who played on Lou Reed’s ‘Berlin’), Kevin Hearn (keyboards), Ulrich Krieger (sax) and Sarth Calhoun (electronics, fingerboard continuum, processing).

This historic Lou Reed set at Lollapalooza includes the classics Walk on the Wild Side and Sweet Jane, plus rare gems including Senselessly Cruel, Waves of Fear and Mad.

Lou’s performance also features a 15-minute mid-set section of instrumental noise performed by Lou's Metal Machine Trio, adding an extra bit of intensity to the proceedings.

MOJO Magazine - Heavy Nuggets CD

I was never a "Hard Rock" kind of guy.  I'll take the Stones over Zeppelin any day, but this disc has received a lot of attention on the ole CD player over the years.  Lookin' around, many of these bands hit the skids after only a short while.  You'd never be able to guess that by the quality of these tracks, though.  If you imagine yourself with long hair, a denim jacket, and an 8-track deck in your pot smoke-filled GTO, then for the love of god download this compilation.
  1. Terry Reid - Tinker Taylor
  2. Pretty Things - Old Man Going
  3. The Open Mind - Magic Potion
  4. Mighty Baby - Egyptian Tomb
  5. Second Hand - Rhubarb!
  6. Leaf Hound - Freelance Fiend

MOJO Mag Comp - "Maximum '65"

Here is one of MOJO Magazine's better giveaway CDs.  The premise for this collection is that 1965 was the best year for British Pop and this CD makes the case for it, the trouble is that not all of these songs were issued in 1965, like the Kinks track.  A really nice collection anyways, check out the track listing below and you will see what I mean.

I've ripped it at 128 kbps...Download HERE.

Billy Rath Is Back!

It's been a long time comin' - Billy has put together a band and is touring some small clubs along the East Coast.  Looks like they are doing mostly Johnny Thunders numbers, but hopefully the band will be working on some originals, too.  Rumor had it they'd be releasing a single sometime during the summer, so keep an eye out.  I guess playing the bass is a lot like riding a bicycle - you never lose your groove.

The Thunder Thighs 7" (1974)

Lou Reed's only hit song, Walk On The Wild Side, is a minimalist piece of musical magnificence.  An unforgettable bassline, a brush gently hitting the snare drum, Lou's song-speak, and the gentle background doo-duh-doo's sung by the "colored girls."

Tribute to "Wild Side" featuring Warhol Superstars and footage from "Ciao! Manhattan"

Well, those colored girls are actually white British chicks who went under the name "Thunder Thighs."  They performed with several top-echelon bands in the early/mid-70s (Mott, Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis), and a few more not-so-well-known ones.

I only bought this 7" because of its connection to Lou, but Central Park Arrest apparently hit the UK Top 40.  I think the b-side is better, though.

Here is a copy I transferred myself, so enjoy!
