I found out about the NYC documentary Downtown Calling on one of my recent blog discoveries - Stupefaction - and wanted to pass it along.
From the mid-70s to the early 80s, the turmoil of New York City spawned an incredbile number of scenes. Poverty, crime, drugs, disease...it all coalesced into a pressure cooker of ideas, where everything affected everything else. I really don't think we'll ever see an artistic explosion of this magnitude ever again...
